Noise Canvas privacy policy

Applies to version 0.9.4 (Android version code 13).

Audio and normal use

Noise Canvas plays and mixes sounds on your device. Its 38 sounds include 25 bundled CC0 recordings and 13 generated sounds. Audio is not streamed or downloaded while listening, and your mix is not sent to a developer-operated server. We do not operate an app account system, advertising service, analytics service or cloud audio service.

The app does not record you or request microphone, location, Bluetooth-discovery or broad storage permissions. Android handles speaker and headphone routing. Background playback uses an Android media service; notification permission is optional for playback controls. The app can read network connectivity state for its bundled Google billing components.

Information kept on your device

Private app storage retains your current mix, sound controls, saved mixes, favorites, timer preference and display/playback settings. Mixes contain settings and sound identifiers rather than copies of recordings. The app also remembers whether it has requested notification permission.

A separate local purchase cache stores whether full access has been obtained through Google Play. This lets a previously verified purchase remain available offline. Successful Play ownership checks can update that cache; a temporary connection failure does not erase it. Running playback and an active timer are not restarted after app-process death or a device reboot.

If Noise Canvas provides you an optional access code, the app checks it locally. The entered code is not sent to Google Play or a developer server and is not saved. Only a separate local full-access flag is retained. It survives app restarts, sound-settings resets and Google Play purchase checks. It is separate from paid purchase ownership; uninstalling or clearing app data removes this local access, and the code can be entered again on that device.

Android cloud backup and device transfer are disabled for app data. Export mixes you want to keep before uninstalling. Clearing sound-machine settings removes your settings and saved mixes but does not clear the separate purchase cache. Uninstalling or clearing all app data removes local app storage. A Google Play purchase remains associated with the purchasing Play account and can be restored when Play is available; reinstalling does not restore local mixes automatically.

Legacy settings from the retired adaptive version may remain after an in-place update. The current sound machine does not read them, and that earlier version did not save microphone recordings.

Google Play purchases

The optional full-access upgrade is a one-time, non-consumable Google Play purchase. There is no Noise Canvas sign-in, subscription or timed trial. Google Play uses your existing Google account, presents payment options and processes the transaction. Purchase and restoration require Play connectivity. Noise Canvas receives purchase information from the Play Billing Library, including the product, purchase state, purchase token and acknowledgement state, to unlock and restore access. Noise Canvas does not receive your Google password or payment-card details and does not send purchases to a developer verification server.

Google's handling of account, payment and transaction information is governed by its Privacy Policy and Google Play Terms of Service. Using Google Play involves third-party processing even though Noise Canvas has no separate app account or developer analytics.

Network access and billing diagnostics

This build does not grant the app Android's INTERNET permission. Audio processing and bundled sounds remain local. Google Play's separate service handles purchase requests and uses its own network connection.

The bundled Play Billing Library includes Google's diagnostic transport. It can create local diagnostic records about billing and the app/device environment, queue them and attempt retries. Removing the app's INTERNET permission prevents direct network transmission from the app process, including that transport. This does not disable Google Play's own transaction processing or describe all data handled by the separate Play Store service. Noise Canvas has no additional developer analytics or advertising SDK.

Sharing and support

Sharing a mix is your choice. An exported NC2: code contains the mix name you entered and its settings, including sound and local layer identifiers. It does not contain captured audio, bundled recording bytes or a hardware identifier. Android's share sheet lets you choose the recipient/application, whose policies then govern that copy. Importing a code changes local mix settings and does not contact its sender.

Optional developer diagnostic tools can collect Android framework logs. Such logs can contain device or environment details; review them before choosing to share them for support. They are not an automatic developer analytics upload.
